We are fling on Youku!

Latvian pavilion was really great experience. Beautiful girls and even better technology! Their own stunt men are doing the same flying trick in the open air on the top of the roof (floating and making tricks more then 10 meters above the roof surface)! As I've heard, they almost killed one guy already...

Cheers for the laowai!

Laowai is one of the words you cannot miss in China. It means foreigner ("old" (lao 老) and "foreigner" (wai 外)).

Lay's cans are wicked in Shanghai

They still surprise me with broad choice and the tastes are really as written on cans!

What's for breakfast?

0,5€ meal from the street: sesame noodles and heated soy milk.

There are almost no drunk people on the streets of China...

which is good of course...but then I tried to imagine how my coworkers from Webmedia would rofl...when Estonian police would also have the same tradition to make notices for the employer about employees who have been caught from the street because they were drunk :P

Hot pot

Something unforgettable from Chinese kitchen. You can throw whatever in it and it starts to taste good after some time.
...and when I said hot...it means it was hot!

Trip to Wuhan

This month we took a 1000 km trip to west to visit our Estonian friend Tauno who studies Chinese language in Wuhan. New trains are so really good and fast in mainland. 1000km took only 6 hours and it had multiple stops on the way.
Almost all the time we spent in Wuhan it was raining, but still it was a nice experience. Population of Wuhan is about 8 million, but the city didn't had any subway (they started to build it) and any other proper public transportation so it felt a lot bigger then it acctually was. Also it was in worse condition (then Shanghai) in general, but also cheaper and felt much more like "real China".

What is the cost for this EXPO fun?

The 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, to run from May 1 to October 31, will benefit from an estimated budget of 28.6 billion yuan (US$3.7 billion), it was revealed on Tuesday by Zhu Yonglei, deputy head of the 2010 World Expo coordination bureau.

It's cool to be white

While in Estonia most girls try to catch the first summer sun to get some tan, then here it's opposite. Most of the girls have umbrella with them during the sunny days, because being whiter is the fashion here. All subways are also filled with ads about whitening creams and other stuff that helps you to look more like Europeans.

Opening of EXPO was awesome!

I haven't seen this kind of fireworks in my life! It lasted for half hour over massive area, it was synchronized with music and they even managed to draw pictures into sky!

And all area was surrounded with human chain of soldiers:

Mr. MacMoped

...is delivering BigMac in minutes! They even have heating and cooling section inside the backpack. Would be nice to have something similar in Estonia also.

Street music

During the evening hours it's possible to see some factory "hobby" ensembles on the street.

Nice restaurant...

Was it a dog soup or not, I'll never know...but it was good...
This is how chef's suit looks like in ordinary street restaurant, but the food is delicious. Bon appetit!

Few more inches...

...and we're sinking. This ship is under-loaded in Shanghai terms. Sometimes it's only possible to see front and back part of the ship because the middle part is under water.

One night in piggy farm...

After that night I should get a degree in veterinary...

Electronics:
Installation:

I just "love" Chinese construction culture.

There are still some metal construction in the building that I don't want to touch. They have absolutely no idea what leakage current protection means...

Typical extension cord:
Supporting systems:

Huh! It's been a small pause in the blog...

...not because the life here is boring, but because we have been working almost non-stop on the pavilion technology. Today I got my first really good sleep after the planes from Finland arrived. Now the EXPO in opened and it feels great that we got it all working! Of course there is still a lot to fix and improve, but the basic concept is running well.

If you look to infinity and you see only people...

...then you know that you are in China. Think about the market opportunities here!

Sunday means shopping in Chinese.

Today's wake-up horn...

...came from this beast!

Welcome to Steve

Decided to share my blog space with my roommate Steve. Hoping to see some fun post from him!

Cool thermometer

If I take a look out of my window, I immediately know the temperature and if I can't see it then it means that it's raining. This chimney idea is so cleaver!

A True local lunch...

...tastes a lot better then it looks. During the past weeks here, I have had only one meal that didn't want go down well (It was Tofu that smelled and tasted like cow shit). Chinese restaurants might look not so good, but the food here is delicious! No more Tsink-Plekk-Pang for me.

Shopping experiences: Fruitshop on the corner

Every street here has it's own little fruitshop. The stuff there is mostly fresh and tasty and it's also extremely cheap. For 1$ it is possible to get a kilo of whatever. I'm still on the half way testing out all the new and interesting things that I haven't got in Europa...and my bottom is still solid! :P

Shopping experiences: Milk in China

When the carton says "Fresh" then it mean that it was milk probably not more then a year ago. Anyway, it's impossible to find ordinary fresh cow milk here, but there are many fancy alternatives! How about "Instant Milk tablets"?

Shopping experiences: WalMart sales

Save money. Live better...or what ever...I was shopping for bread and cola, but got this on the half way to food section. This will be our team official Sunday-shirt :P Locals call me "white giant" here, so a pink daddy-shirt suits well :P
So far I think that WalMart has the best bread choice in Shanghai. Local stores have almost no bread and milk product on their shelfs.
